It’s a Date!

The inaugural South by Deep South will be held September 26th-28th in Birmingham, Alabama.

We’re still working on the number of tracks, but they will include:

  • Social Media/PR/Marketing
  • Web development
  • A full-blown WordCamp

That’s right — a full-blown WordCamp, the first we know of to be announced in the Southeastern United States.

Oh… there will be plenty to do, and plenty to see in the evenings, as Birmingham will also be hosting the 10th Annual Sidewalk Film Festival that very weekend. (For those of you from out of town… Sidewalk is getting to be a pretty big deal. Come now so you can brag to your friends about how ‘you knew it when…’)

I’m from LA (Lousiana) but don’t live there anymore — although thinking about living in both places, i.e., Colorado and Louisiana — but I digress. I’m thinking about coming since I love the places and people, it sparks the creative juices. :)

    Hope to see everyone.

This is great news and we at Birmingham Weekly are very excited. We’ll be keeping up, but please keep us apprised of developments as this gets rolling. Also, if you can think of anything we can do — potential partnerships or even programing for us ink-and-paper people — feel free to ask.

Expect a large amount of traffic to this post later today :P Nice to see the south eastern US getting some Tech Love. I would of thought Atlanta Georgia would of had the first WordCamp event in the SE but you have proven me wrong. Just make sure there is some BBQ around the WordCamp Event because WordPressers seem to be a big fan of BBQ, especially Matt.

Nashvegas pledges their full support, Ike ;) Just say the word. I’m looking forward to WordCamp the best, but if it’s anything like SxSW, the nights will be fun too ;)

Woot! Very exciting to have something big coming to the area. I’ll definitely try to get there. Just a hop, skip, and a jump from Louisiana. :D

  17. Chrystalline Says:

That’s actually a reasonable distance from here! Do you have an announcements list? I know me, and I’ll forget if I don’t get reminders, especially since it’s not that long after DragonCon.

  18. Kathy Drewien Says:

Just discovered the meaning of SxDS. Please keep me in the loop, and tell me what I can do to help.

  25. Isaac Pigott Says:

Hi Tarun — we’re still working out venues.

The plan is for each track to set its own course. There may be one or two inclusive events for everyone, but the sizes of the individual tracks will dictate the physical locations those committees will need to target.

    Hope you can make it!

  26. Shawn Says:

You need to put up a mailing list so we can sign up for reminders. I might forget about this!! But it sounds awesome, and I plan on being there. New Orleans is not too far from you…

  27. KrisTK Says:

This sounds fabulous! It’s on my calendar.
I can help spread the word through the Southern Public Relations Federation (sprf.org) and PR students and pros in Mississippi. I also have ties to some great speakers when you start putting the line-up together.

  28. Liz Strauss Says:

Hi! This is fabulous! Great news to get the spirit of the south and bloggers together. Happy to help. Would love to be a part. Keep me posted. :)

  29. Will Scott Says:

Ike, where’s the organization list for the rest of the conference?

I see the WordCamp on the Wiki but will there be other general search marketing topics?

If so I’d be happy to help out.
